Silent Protest

I have been asked to post about a silent protest on Friday that is being planned by the teachers who are not in support of the plan. You are expected to be there but you do not have to applaud or clap for anything that you do not support. (Including the acrobats) Good luck guys. I will be outside with signs and hopefully many others doing the same.

    1. FYI!! We were told that the board was absolutely NOT voting on FRIDAY! They were postponing until the information could be "digested."

  2. And silent I shall be, as well!!

  3. We need all school personnel on board with this and we need all non school personnel to show up, protest loudly inside and outside, and shut this thing down once and for all

    1. We need people from all of our community to protest. Example, contact parents of Appling Middle. Certainly they do not want their young 8th graders to be in the same school as the gang at Northeast.

  5. you should do a post about Bibb principals

    ReplyDelete

    1. Let everyone know which principals are highly suggesting (requiring) the staff to act enthusiastic. Maybe Chinese is good since teachers feel like we now have a Chinese Communist party ruling our school system.

      Delete
    2. Tell us which principals are requiring their staff to act enthusiastic. My principal told us to act like adults and stand firm in our beliefs. He said he would respect us and not to worry about what would happen to him. AND he meant it. He's also looking for a new job.

  8. Please remember that these are your children and your tax dollars and it is time to take our children's education back. If everyone stands united they will not be able to go through with this plan. Remember if you stand by and do nothing you will be as guilty of as the board members voting yes. We live in America and we have the right to fight back.

    3. Perhaps we can wear black armbands.

  14. I am definitely concerned for my child's safety and education in Bibb County. Dallemand's proposal is not the way to go to benefit the children in Bibb County. Especially for my child. I will protest for my child!!!!

    1. Thank you! I wonder how many other administratoors feel the same way and if they will have the guts to sit silently with their teachers!

      Delete
    2. I, also, am an administrator. I will sit silently. If I could, I would be outside protesting.

      Delete
    3. I know of a few administrators who are against it. Sadly, ours is not. She was roped in by the meetings today. She came in saying that she stood behind him 100%.

      Delete
  16. I will join! Discipline at my school has become non-existant under Dallemand. I have convicted felons in class terrorizing their classmates and I have been stripped of all power to do anything about it. My administrators' hands are tied too! We all know what the problem is, but Dally refuses to admit it. This has become insane. If parents truly knew what was going on, the private schools would double in size overnight!

I would under no circumstances send my child to a Bibb middle or high school as long as Dallemand is superintendent. He cares about nothing except getting money by keeping as many kids in the classroom as possible even if some of those kids are violent criminals. Your schools are not safe and will not be as long as Dally is in power.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No offense to the teachers out there, but why would you send them to one before Dallemand? The schools have sucked here for a long time. Although I disagree with his "action plan" for making a plan I atleast give him credit for trying. When was the last time that any plan other than "more money" was put forth?

      1. A language program is a great idea. Even better, how about a language magnet school system?
      2. Several schools are under populated. Closing them would save money and is a good idea.
      3. "redirecting" kids and forcing parent involvement at the elementary level actually is based on solid research and is a good idea.
      4. More IB programs and pushing kids to excel is a good idea. So are Charter Schools and an expanded magnet school system.

There are problems with this plan, serious ones. The core problem is a complete lack of self responsibility on any of the students or parents. But not all of the ideas are bad. Some might be beneficial and teachers need to emprace change of some sort if we have any chance of saving education in America.

      Delete
    2. The problem with Dallmand is not what is on paper, but all the lies and secretive stuff nobody hears about.

      Delete
  17. Spread the word! Tell your co-workers about this blog and the silent protest. I will tell everyone at my school!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm a parent and I'll be there! What time should we plan on getting there, and where should we meet? Will we be able to go inside if we are not a school employee?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Of course you can go inside! It is a big unveiling for the community and open to the public! It's our community, our schools, our children and should be our plan!

      Delete
  19. Here is an idea...on Friday, rather than sitting there and not clapping, which will draw unnecessary attention to you, why not "fake clap". Bring your hands together as if clapping, but don't let your hands touch. This way you can still protest with silence, but you will have the "action" of clapping - just an idea to keep the thought police off your back. This meeting friday will also be a great opportunity to play words with friends as well or angry birds on your phone or tablet! Better yet, bring a coloring book and crayons and color a picture while dollymon does his thing and the acrobats and confetti fly.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I disagree about the "fake clapping" - I think the point is to publicly demonstrate that we are withholding approval, gratitude or support of the plan.

      Delete
    2. Oh I beg to differ there, I was at every session, and participated fully in the discussions, never playing phone games, but this plan doesn't have anything much in it that is familiar to me, nor the suggestions or ideas my fellow educators came up with during those breakout sessions! Those are D and his cabinets plans, and they aren't even original for Bibb Co. He's tried them before in other states and they didn't fly there and he was sent packing. We need to do the same!

The last few times that big events have taken place, the parking has been a major problem. As far as the not getting paid, I think certain principals are being heavy handed. I do hope all the administrators including Dr. Dallemand do the same....

    Replies
    1. I would like to know why, after all the expense of the four strategic planning days, his 'plan' looks just like the one he had in mind BEFORE the so-called community input. Remarkably similar to Rochester, too. Hmmm, how could that have happened when it was supposed to be a COMMUNITY plan? In all the meetings I was in, I never heard the first person mention we needed race-training or Mandarin...

      Delete
    2. And since this plan is almost identical to what he wanted to do in MN, why did it take so long? And how is it possible to have no financial information for any of it and then say it save money at the end? it does not make sense!

      Delete
    3. Does he expect us o believe that 4,000 school employees wanted to close 12 schools and cut 300 teachers and increase the size of the classes? He said thesewere all things that the 4000 came up with. What a liar.

      Delete
    4. 1. Why all the secrecy? Why all the secret meetings and pressure on principles to not follow the current rules in place?

      2. Why is there no self responsibility in the leadership? Any other leader of any other organization would have been all over a rap in a company bathroom. Yet, he didnt even know about it for several days? (you cant say this, but we are not stupid.)

      3. Some of the most troubled schools in the system are 90%+ minority students, 90%+ minority educators, 90%+ minority administrators, yet he still claims the reason they are struggling is because of racism. Can he explain how that is possible?

      4. How is it that our ESOL students perform at a higher level on AYP than many of our regular students, especially in struggling schools?

      Delete
    5. Dr. D., have you used your school credit card for personal purchases, trips, lodging, food, entertainment, and etc? DO you pay the Bibb County School System back for the dinners that you and your deputy superintendent eat at Marco's or Downtown Grill?

      Delete
  28. Why is the board voting on this plan today when it was just unveiled to the public? Why not wait a few months to give time for people to read it, examine it, research it and give their input to their representatives?

That would be my question. I don't agree with a lot of what I see in the plan, but I can understand the "don't condemn it until he explains it" argument. However, if we aren't allowed to know all the details until after the board is voted, then how can the board know what the public wants?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Why is this plan being unveiled without the board voting on it?
Why does he lie and do things underhandedly?
    Why does he bully administrators?
WHY DOES HE NOT JUST LEAVE ALREADY??!?!?!?!?!?!?!

How is it that the middle and high school administrators have already been trained in efficacy leadership, before the plan has been approved? Are you sure money has not already changed hands? Also, on efficacy.org, envoy project, it already states that it will be in Bibb Co. Schools spring of 2012. How is that possible, when it has yet to be approved? And money hasn't changed hands?

Just a note for you all to see:

In regards to B_Rad's call to NewsTalk this morning raising Kenny's alleged comments in regards to anyone opposing the plan as being racist.

I called the NewsTalk office this morning and recited Kenny's quote.... (roughly)

'if you live in the Northern area of Bibb Co, you're racist if you don't support this plan, as you know that the plan serves a specific demographic of the publilc school's population.....'

  47. I feel very fortunate to resign as a teacher in November and be offered a job not in education where I don't go home stressed. It was TERRIBLE with all the discipline problems and hearing from your administrators that the reason for this is that you are not "challenging" them. Before all of this, Dallemand came to our school to speak to us last school year and from what he wanted then, I knew I had to get out. I will be silently protesting as well. Teachers should have a right to speak up because they are the ones who have to deal with what is going on in the classroom. I think they should let these people who are making these decisions go back in the classroom for about a month to see what the teachers go through. All of this not disciplining the children is not teaching them anything and will affect them later on when they become adults.

Here is a great article that was posted on cnn which basically defends teachers.

  49. Teachers and Staff of the Bibb Board of Education:

I have been alerted to this blog and find the comments very interesting - and many quite disturbing. My only wish is that you believe in your hearts that this plan will be the beginning of a new effort in Bibb County for improved education. The road will fraught with distractions and detractors, but know this, the end result of this plan will be increased student safety, higher test scores, lower student-teacher ratios, improved school technology and a school system we can be proud of. I am fully aware that Houston County has one of the best school systems in Middle Georgia - and my focus will be to surpass Houston Counties wonderful reputation. In the end, we will have families moving into Bibb County and leaving Stratford, FPD, Covenant Academy and the other private schools to enroll their children into the Bibb County Board of Education.

In light of some of the comments on this site, please do not attempt to disrupt my unveiling and unleashing of the Great Macon Miracle plan this Friday. I expect all Bibb BOE employees to come with fresh make-up, hair done just right and to fully participate. I expect total interaction as I reveal said plan and I will have monitors walking around looking for those who do not applause or stand when appropriate.

I am the Superintendent and I EXPECT and DEMAND your total allegiance, or as Donald Trump says, "You're FIRED!" Your friend at 484 Mulberry Street - - RD :-)

It is scientifically proven that learning two languages at a young age improves the students ability to learn both languages. In other words, they would become more proficient at both English and Manderan by learning them at the same time than they would at either one individually. Learning multiple language also improves comprehension in other subjects like math and science.

Of all the things in this to protest, that gets so much attention and I dont get it...

    1. I don't think anyone objects to a second language being taught. It's just that not everyone NEEDS to learn Chinese. Wouldn't a Bibb graduate who was fluent in English and maybe Spanish be a very desirable employee in our area in almost any field. Language learning is wonderful, but there should be some CHOICE.

      Delete
    2. I agree choice would be better. A step further, I think there should be a language system. Several primary / elementary schools that teach primarily in a foriegn language. Maybe even a secondary / middle school as well.

But back to my point...nobody has said anything about choice. They are saying it is a bad idea because our graduates do not currently speak english. Well, the teaching of a foriegn language has proven to bridge that gap and improve native language skills as well as teach a foriegn language.

If we are going to protest, lets protest with knowledge and facts. Efficacy training, Racial sensitivity training, Lack of discipline putting our kids in danger. These are real issues, not knee jerk reactions.

    3. The problem is the SPANISH is the nation's secondary language! Tell me where in the needle in the haystack are these kids going to be speaking Mandarin Chinese and to Whom!

  52. I have sources inside 484 mulberry street and she said that Dr. Dallemand is requesting beefed up security at the Centerplex Friday due to news that there will be protests at the Centerplex. This source also said that Dr. Dallemand has or will be interviewing for another Superintendent's job somewhere outside of Georgia.

    5. I think it's great that people who are apparently Bibb county employees are posting on blogs during school hours. Wish I had time to spread lies on the internet. I can't even find time to go to the bathroom. I hope this employee is one of the 300 to lose their job.

      Delete
    6. It is possible that if a post is during school hours that the employee is on a break if not a teaching position or in the bathroom or eating lunch if it a teacher. There are these great devices called smartphones which allow anyone to post at any time or place.

By the way, the time stamp is way off on this site, so you can't go by that.

    7. I think Miracles' point was that she doesn't have anytime in her day to peruse blogspots. I know that I don't sit down all day. I eat with my students and I don't carry my phone with me to the bathroom.

  54. UPDATE : According to the Macon mayor's office it is not necessary to get a permit to peacefully protest, but I was cautioned to not block entry ways or the flow of traffic. This applies to public land. However they did request that I supply them with the info for the mayor's FYI and I advised a peaceful demonstration at the centreplex in opposition to the proposed strategic plan on Feb 10th. again asking that if you cannot carry a sign wear pink and purple........... Good luck to all... See ya' there

  55. Our "mandatory per Dr. RD faculty meeting" was about going over some of his plan. I guess he is continuing to try to brainwash us into liking it. It did mention 2 extra hours per day and Sat. and Sun. school. I don't know why we had to hear this from our principal but we did. It would be interesting to see what other principals did since ours was very matter of fact about his "facts". I resent the fact that principals had to be out of the building today and all day tomorrow. We don't ever have anyone left in charge but a secretary.
I AM SO VERY PROUD OF THESE HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS AND HOPE ALL OF THEM WILL PARTICIPATE. This made a big impact in Minnesota. Thanks guys!

  56. teachers are getting email from administrators (under orders i am sure) to remind us that "District purchased technology equipment is not to be used under any circumstances to send out messages of a personal or political opinion on events in the district, city, nation, etc. Opinions can be shared on personal time using personal devices." this would include ANY employee, up to and including D. - should anyone receive or know about any emails from D or his staff that express ANY personal opinion on ANYTHING - please make a note of it because that would be a direct violation of the county's policy on appropriate use of technology.

  57. This was just posted on Macon Telegraph in the comments:
"bibb elementary principals met with dr. D tuesday. dr. "data-driven" dallemand happily reported that ONLY 10% of communications to the board office were AGAINST his proposed plan. if you believe this..... (insert whatever you like along the lines of "a great deal on oceanfront property in macon" or "get rich working at home 1 hour a day" or "share in millions of dollars in a trunk awaiting clearance in customs" or any similar scam)."

    1. Our staff was told that there are 152,000 people in our community, but the Central Office had only heard 100 complaints. Right.

    2. What do they constitute as hearing a complaint? Does it have to be email, or a phone call? Does it have to go a particular person? I would like to know that so we can know the proper protocol to lodge a complaint.

    3. We were told that the board would not be voting on Friday!

    4. So when are they voting and how can they still have the circus on Friday if there's been no vote to approve the plan? You know Dallemand is ticked off that they had to have that open meeting on Friday. He was hoping to just slide this on through under the radar without any protests.

  58. I will be at both meetings this week with my 3 children. To show what discipline and structure looks like in children! Secondly, On Friday my signs will read, Structure, Discipline, I'm my mother's child not the BOE. I'm already bi-lingual, I speak english and spanish! I'm not a dollar sign! I could go on!

  59. Please, everyone come down on Friday. Take all the parking spots before us teachers arrive. Then we will all be stuck in traffic, trying to park while the "show" begins. Then let him talk with everyone still in traffic and still trying to get in seats. Got to love freedom of speech and to protest. Come on Bibb County, help us teachers out !

    1. Oh, that sucks! Don't do that! You'd be wasting the teachers time and gas. Some of us are open minded and would like to hear what Dr. Dallemand has to say before deciding if we support the plan or not.

    1. The agenda for the Thursday board meeting is on the Bibb County School website. There is nothing about the plan on it. There is a calendar of meetings and events included in the document which mentions a called board meeting at 1 p.m. at the Centreplex Arena and then the kick-off starting at 1:30. Is that when they are voting?

  63. When looking at the money spent to implement the plan don't forget the unemployment checks that must be issued to the laid off teachers and staff. I am sure that number has not been given. The staff will still continue with Cobra benefits, which come with a price tag. The new Chinese arrivals will also recieve some benefit package as well as salary. These issues alone will cost the district big money.

  64. ******I've heard that some parents at various schools are planning on picking up their children late in order to keep the teachers at the school so they don't have to attend the makon mirakle event friday - anybody else heard of this passive/aggressive plan??

  68. Hi - I went to the student protest on Thursday morning, and also to the Board Meeting on Thursday night. I decided not to go to the protest at the centreplex because the vote had been postponed. At that point, it seemed like getting the vote postponed was an accomplishment that will now allow our input to be heard about why we were not in favor of the Macon Miracle as it is planned. I will participate in upcoming board meetings and continue to support the teachers.
